GB to host USA in Davis Cup rematch

Great Britain will host its first Davis Cup World Group tie in 13 years after being drawn to face USA in the first round of the 2015 competition.

It serves as a rematch to February’s first-round World Group clash in San Diego, where Andy Murray and James Ward helped steer Great Britain to a 3-1 victory.

While Britain has played host to the likes of Hungary, Belgium and Turkey in recent years, the last time Great Britain played in front of home crowds in the World Group was in 2002.

On that occasion, at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena, Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski held a 2-1 lead but lost their reverse rubbers to Thomas Enqvist and Thomas Johansson.

The last time Britain won a World Group tie at home was in March 1986, when Jeremy Bates and John Lloyd led the hosts to a 4-1 victory against the two-man Spanish team of Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez on the carpet at the Racquet Centre in Telford.
