Dan Maskell Tennis Trust was chosen by the Wimbledon Foundation as one of its beneficiaries from the resale of tickets during The Championships to take part in a clinic run by HSBC to highlight their involvement in match funding the ticket resales.
HSBC Ambassadors Tim Henman and World No. 1 wheelchair player Alfie Hewett, joined the on court session for a wheelchair clinic led by coach Luke Mulvihill from Sutton Tennis Centre, some of the regular players from the wheelchair group based at the Centre, and other invited players. The clinic took place at the All England Club’s Community facility in Raynes Park.
Connections with the Trust go back many years – Tim is a Vice-President and Alfie had support with a tennis wheelchair back in 2011 when he was an up and coming player.
The media were invited to attend and given the opportunity to interview Tim and Alfie and coverage featured on BBC London News and in The Times and the Daily Mail.
The Wimbledon Foundation is the Trust’s main beneficiary and the connection with Wimbledon goes right back to the days of Dan Maskell – the legendary BBC Commentator – known affectionately as the “voice of Wimbledon” after whom the Trust was named.
The Trust raises funds to support disabled people who play tennis and has distributed £300,000 in grants over the past 5 years.
