Babolat is a business that has been family run for five generations. Created in 1875 in Lyon, France, the company specialises in racket sports and in 2013 launched the first connected racket (Babolat Play) which stores and transmits player data to connected devices.
Sponsored players include former World No. 1s Rafael Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki. Jo Wilfried Tsonga, Genie Bouchard and British No.1 Heather Watson.
In August 2015, Babolat unveiled the Babolat Pure Aero racket, an evolution of the Aeropro Drive, Babolat’s global best selling racket. The Pure Aero, like its predecessor, was produced to allow a player to create more spin on their shots.
In simple terms, top spin is created in two ways – firstly through the speed of the racket through the air and second, the movement of the strings when the ball hits the racket. The more the strings move, the more spin can be created.
The Pure Aero incorporates two new technologies to optimise spin: Aeromodular2 and FSI Spin. Babolat have a patent pending on the Aeromodular 2 technology, which integrates a Woofer system and Cortex inside the racket frame. This allows the racket to move faster through the air.
The oblong shaped grommets, which are positioned in the head at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock, along with a more open string pattern enable the strings to move more, creating more spin as the ball hits the strings.
The Pure Aero is available as both a non connected and a connected racket. The traditional racket retails at £200 and will be available from September. The connected version, the Babolat Pure Aero Play costs £300 and will be available a month later, in October.
Franck Debeauvais UK Sales and Marketing Director said, “As a successor to the Aero Pro Drive family, the Pure Aero will be our best selling line in the UK. Pure Aero and Pure Aero Lite should be within the top 5 best sellers in the market.” Babolat is market leader in junior and performance rackets in the UK.
Babolat is the market leader in racket sales in the USA, France, Spain and Italy and No. 2 in Japan.
