Padel and Pickleball News
Applicant Advantage Padel has submitted plans to to build a tennis facility on an industrial/warehouse unit in Christchurch, Dorset. However, the application has received several objections from residents who are raising concerns. Rival business PicklePad Pickleball and Padel Centre, said it is strongly objecting to application because their own facility meets the current market demand. A statement says: “The proposed development seeks to meet a demand that is already being adequately served…establishing a near-identical facility in such close proximity would primarily attract users from outside the immediate area.”
A British farmer has transformed one of his potato storage warehouses into a padel court as part of a diversification project. Callum Stark farms 3,000 acres near Sutton-on-the-Forest in North Yorkshire and said the decision was prompted by the lower prices he was getting for his crop.“We weren’t getting paid enough really for the potatoes,” he said. Although he continues to farm his land, the courts have proved popular and are already fully booked. Mr Stark urged other farmers to consider options for developing additional income to help support their main businesses.

Eleven new Padel courts are set to open in Merseyside, with the first location to be launched in the spring of 2026. Sefton Council has appointed Sefton Padel to lead on the development, delivery, and long-term operation of the new facilities. The council said it has agreed Heads of Terms for a partnership with the new company, to develop and manage Padel facilities at three sites across the borough. Subject to obtaining planning consent, the local authority also confirmed 11 new Padel courts will be developed as part of a six-figure investment programme. Furthermore, the council said some of the new courts will be covered to allow for year-round play. Additionally, the council said nine existing lawn tennis courts will be refurbished to improve facilities for tennis players.
